7 Essential Traits of highly successful entrepreneurs

Editor’s Note: This article was first published on PenVoices as a guest post written and submitted by yours faithfully. I figured it would be helpful and useful to some of you so I decided to share it here with you as well. Have fun reading.

Entrepreneurship is one of the best ways to advance as a person and it is the singular most important factor in nation building in that it affects positively the economic growth and development of such nation.

Back in college, I was exposed to the nitty-gritties of what entrepreneurship is and about, the factors that makes up an entrepreneur and their likes. It was definitely a fun experience those days in college.

Well, I hope that you will come off reading this piece having learned all those aforesaid fundamentals of an entrepreneur. But most importantly, I hope that you would indeed learn the traits of highly successful entrepreneurs just so you could someday become a celebrated one yourself and get the opportunity to teach your experiences like I am doing here today.

So who is an entrepreneur?

I looked up the meaning of an “entrepreneur” on my smartphone’s WordWeb application and it laconically and succinctly defined an entrepreneur to be one who organizes a business venture and assumes the risk for it.

I went further in my research and found out too from Merriam-Webster and it said, “An entrepreneur is one who organizes, manages, and assumes the risks of a business or enterprise.”

In short, an entrepreneur is a business leader and innovator of fresh ideas and business processes. He has the knowledge to pull off an idea and groom it into something BIG and that would outlast himself whilst taking huge risks in the process.

However, there is something really important that an entrepreneur is possessed with and that’s the ability to take risk that may or may not help him make profit(s). I will talk more about that later in this book.

There are many folks who have showed and have led the way into becoming a highly successful entrepreneur. You know them and I trust that you can list them if you wanted to.

For the purposes of your learning experience, I will do well to mention some of those folks and share a little bit of their life, work rates, and entrepreneurial experiences with you.

I will mention just five (5):

Steve Jobs: Steve has to be the first on my list, not because I have a thing for the man, but rather because he deserved a top spot.

He’s shown us what it means to build a multi-million dollars company and make its products roll on the lips and in the hands of every individuals from all walks of life.

Now, that’s huge, isn’t it?

But you know Steve Jobs had to endure trying times, times when he was kicked out from his own company. You know he was faced with so many different challenges whilst growing into the person he became; from serving and returning coke bottles, eating free meals in Krishna Temple and sleeping in front of friends’ door in India.

The man however got an epiphany and eureka moment where he discovered something about himself, pull up ideas, pursued these ideas head on with utmost passion, resilience, strong-willed and utmost believe in himself, grander vision and of course the willingness to take risks.

Bill Gates: I won’t dwell much about this man and the others I will mention after him. The reason is simple. You could easily read up their biography or auto-biography online.

If I have learned anything in my life, it would be because I have spent enough time in studying the lives of highly successful people. And in my several hours of studying their lives, I had found out that they all had or have something in common.

I will do well to mention these things in the body of these texts. Read on…

Larry Page

Paul Allen

Wale Adenuga, and the list is actually endless. They all are people who embraced passion and push hard on themselves to get to the height in which they are today.

Before I share with you my 7 essential traits of highly successful entrepreneurs, I’d love to share with you this formula I stumbled on in my journey across the internet-web.

Here you go:

“Entrepreneur + Capital = Products + Customers = Business.”

I looked very closely at this equation and realized its trueness and factualness in that most entrepreneurs I have had the rarest of opportunity to chat with practiced this exact same thing.

They make sure to have a capital in which to run a smooth business in hand. Plus a sellable solution packaged in form of a product(S). And a hungry customer base to sell to. All these put together make for a smooth sail into entrepreneurship.

Hence, you are not an entrepreneur if you don’t already have this formula or strategy in place for your business.

That said. Let’s take a dive in into sharing the real meat with you about the essential traits of highly successful entrepreneurs.

Are you ready?!

7 Essential Traits of highly successful entrepreneurs

7 Essential Traits of Highly Successful Entrepreneurs

1: Vision – What is vision if not the ability to peep into the future through the lens of your imagination and to top that up, imagination is the preview of life’s coming attraction.

I love the definition my uncle shared with me some years back. He wittily stated, “Imagination is an image nation.” And Albert Einstein further reaffirmed this truth when he said, “Imagination is greater than any knowledge in the world”.

Well, the two men were right in their views.

And that is why I believe when you tap into the huge resource inside your inner recess, which is your mind, otherwise known as imagination, you get the amazing opportunity to sightsee into the future, paint pictures of how you’d love your business to turn out in the next 3 or so years to come.

Now, that’s vision!

And vision allows an entrepreneur to see opportunities where other people think there are none.
I once read a story of two men who travelled from Europe to Africa to survey and see if or not there are business opportunities in the locals.

One of the representatives went back to give his feedbacks; he had said, “There are no opportunities in Africa.”
And the second representatives stayed back to understudy the African people, their cultures and their uniqueness.

Doing these, he found out that most persons goes about barefooted and that was it. He cut an idea in which he shared with his company upon returning to Europe. This gave birth to “shoe” invention.

Entrepreneurs are innovators!

They forever saddles themselves with the responsibility to create new ideas or improve on existing ideas, products and services.

Entrepreneurs are visionaries and futurists who sees something, talk about it and went ahead to create something out of what they see, which could either be a software or a book presenting the idea of how they hope things should be.

I am a visionary!

I discovered sometimes ago that most people want to make money from doing what they love and hence, I positioned myself perfectly to helping these folks start, launch and grow their own successful online businesses.

Now, that’s a core trait of an entrepreneur right there!

2: Passion – Passion is an intense desire to achieve something as though your life depended on it. It is a desire a person have to create and share ideas with people even though there is nothing in it for them.

A senior colleague once asked me, “Sam, if making money was not part of what you do, would you still do it?”

I critically analysed the question, adjusted myself and boldly answered YES.

How many people can answer yes to that question?

Are we not all too concerned about making money that we forget about the solution we are helping to solve?

I can categorically tell you that I have helped people create their dream lives for FREE more than I have ever charged or make from my shared strategies or service rendered.

Looking back, I have helped an Indian fella start and grow his weblog.

I had purchased the domain name, got the template and installed his website online. Contributed in making him go viral by ghost writing a masterpiece for him to publish on a top blog as a guest author.

All these for FREE!

I have freely taught my ideas with people offline and online via Facebook or elsewhere in the online space.

I love doing these things because it’s become my passion along the years. Trust me I love teaching the things I discovered through learning or listening to highly successful people who have made great impact in their various industries and on my life.

If it were not for passion, my friend, I would have given up on my dreams, I would have given up everything about online business, because I literally spent all the money I made in my 9 – 5 job on my online business only to make nothing back from the business. It was heartrending but I kept doing it anyways, all for passion.

So your passion is what you need to keep going the journey of becoming a successful entrepreneur.

3: Resilience – I don’t claim to know or be an expert with words so I always almost look up the meaning of words or any abstract idea that I stumble upon. 🙂

That said. I looked up the meaning of this word and my WordWeb app again presented me with a perfect definition: The physical property of a material that can return to its original shape or position after deformation that does not exceed its elastic limit.

Another brilliant definition is that resilience is an occurrence of rebounding or springing back.

So resilience is needed to run a successful business that makes huge profit.

Most times, life would knock you out of your wit causing you to go crashing down be it emotionally or financially.

This is all a part of the entrepreneurial experiences and it is in fact what makes an entrepreneur tick and make progress in business in that it births experiences that is sure able to make you make better choices next time around.

However, to stay strong and focused is to have resilience. To have the capacity to be flexible in making needed changes.

Many people are inflexible and as such break down completely when failure hits them hard in the face. They get all confused as to what they should do to outturn their current predicaments.

You can’t be a successful entrepreneur or perhaps a leader that people would want to cluster around to learn from if you are not flexible and elastic enough to fall back to formation, to go back to the drawing board and make some certain alterations in your plans and visions for your business.

I love that famous Winston Churchill’s quote when he said, “Success is the ability to go from one loss to another with no loss of enthusiasm.”

Churchill was right and trust me you will fail over and over again but your flexibility will be the distinguishing factor for you. It would be what will stand you out from other people.

So when others give in to circumstances because they fail all too often in their business, you will instead stick it out by finding new ways to fly and maybe this time on Eagles’ wings.

If you feel you need more stories of entrepreneurs who have gone far and beyond to becoming successful despite the huddles they were faced with, I would think these guys names are no alien to you. Steve Jobs, Walt Disney, Bill Gates,Roman Abrahamovic, Thomas Edison, Henry Ford or Donald Trump.

These entrepreneurs experienced first-hand setbacks and failures unique to their businesses but what they didn’t do is to give up on their dreams. They took on the armour of resilience and pressed on as though their lives depended on it and as such made enormous progress to becoming successful entrepreneurs.

4: Strong sense of self – I am a believer and I believe so much in the power of self! I believe that whatever the mind can think and believe, it can achieve.

Entrepreneurs, even successful entrepreneurs don’t shy away from the fact that failure can set in anytime. In fact, it is this knowing that helps them prepare and strategize ways of averting these impending business failures.
Challenges are different.

I mean to say your business challenges are not necessarily the same challenge I am faced with in my business even though we are in the same industry.

Hope you got the drift?

Cool!

So we’ve talked about vision, passion, and resilience. These three are huge factors of becoming a successful entrepreneur but they can only go so far. And this is the sheer reason why successful entrepreneur believes extremely in themselves.

You have got to believe me, you can’t and won’t achieve any success in life let alone in business if you don’t have a strong sense of self.

Every successful entrepreneurs I know are folks who extremely and passionately believe in the purpose to which they serve.

I have a friend in Emeka Nobis, Simeon Taiwo, Abraham Ologundudu, Dayo Samuel, Speaker Samson Egbums, Stephen Michael, Esohe Igbinoba, Akinyemi Akintolu and my mentor, Najeem Akinwande and these folks are people who have showed time and time again the power of self.

They are folks who every fibre of their beings radiate and communicate self-confident and self-motivation, which is also the most important traits of entrepreneurship.

A man who is confident and strongly motivated is a dangerous man. He is dangerous in the sense that he would most times do things that people think and deem unreasonable and unfeasible.

So you might ask, “But Sam, just how confident are entrepreneurs?”

Well, I’d tell you simply that entrepreneurs are extremely self-confident. They are believers and they believe that there’s nothing they cannot do and achieve. A study by the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation on behalf of LegalZoom confirms whatever doubt you may already have about the aforesaid ideas, “91% of entrepreneurs are confident that their businesses will be more profitable in the next 12 months.”

Now, that is explosively, right?!

Show me a man who absolutely believe in HIMSELF, works diligently to actualize his DREAMS, not caring about NAYSAYERS, but consistently showing up to build his dreams and I will show you a man who will dine and wine with SUCCESSFUL moguls and cream of the crop of great conglomerates.

5: Receptive to learning – Successful entrepreneurs are lifelong learners! They don’t shy away from the fact that it is important that they grow their knowledge base about their industries.

Successful entrepreneurs are people with keen insights and they are almost always ready to unlearn in order to relearn what they think or actually know.

I have always read, been told and have always believed in those ingrained words “Readers are Leaders” that I have spent the most of my time buying, reading and studying books.

And you can almost trust that these books have sure helped in carving the ME that you’ve read about and that penned skilfully this work of art.

To be an industry leader, you have to stay sharp and on top of your game always. You must not give people the reason to want to doubt you or your business. And to achieve this means to embrace constant learning.

The industry evolves and is an ever changing game – only those who constantly groom their minds have the chance at staying ahead.

In my industry, there are many people who comes out of the blue to claim that they are the next big thing. They buy a cheap domain, get a cheap hosting (some are even hosted by friends), install their blogs and of course steal contents online only to rehash and serve them to online consumers.

It’s such a shame!

But trust me this is what happens almost all the time. It’s why we have more than 163 million blogs on the internet today and with amateurs who knows next to nothing about the trade but parades the web claiming what they are not. I call them charlatans!

The distinguishing factor however between you and these folks would be your acquired knowledge, even those knowledge you have amassed over the years of running your own successful business.

We have said you need to stay ahead of your competitors and by staying ahead we simply mean that you have access to information; information about your industry at your fingertip.

Oh yes! You also need to build your capacity, that is, your reservoir of knowledge such that when you are tapped off your sleep to share tips of achieving success in the niche in which you fill, you won’t have to break a sweat sharing your heart out.

To however get to this standard, you will need to be an avid and voracious consumer of books. Be sure to wake up very early in the morning to read industry news.

Whatever you do make sure you are constantly evolving and growing by learning and absorbing new information.

I have often said that the difference between you and I is simple. The difference between myself and you is simply the amount of information we are exposed to.

Be hungry for information!

6: Network like crazy – Another powerful ingredient of highly successful entrepreneurs is their ability to network.
Successful entrepreneurs are networkers!

They understand that their network is tantamount to their net-worth and hence, they do all it takes to meet and build long and lasting relationships with people.

While many people believe in making fliers and business cards to grow their networks, I am of the opinion that these are not strategies capable enough to help build a formidable business.

To build a formidable business that is centred on value-creation means to put yourself and voice on the line. By putting yourself and your voice on the line, I simply mean to be ready and stay consistent in sharing valuable content that will benefit people as to help them get from one level to another.

The question that begs an answer would be, “But how do I build a network?”

It’s pretty simple trust me!

Make a list of 3 social networks that you frequent on.

Determine the amount of folks you’d be able to message in a single day.

Craft out a friendly template message you’d want to send out to these folks.

Make sure that you stay online to follow-up with them.

Keep exchanging HIs and pleasantries.

Greet them on their special days.

If they have a weblog, visit, read, comment on it and share it on your timeline.

Repeat and rinse.

You will be shocked at the kind of response and growth you’d get by simply staying committed to these routine.
I do this often and I can beat my chest to tell you that I have gain a whole lot from practicing the above strategies.

Wait…

Are you scared of not being able to craft a template to roll out to these people?

Here’s one:

Hi [name of your prospect]

My name is [insert your name here], and I am a [your job description and what you do to help people].

I noticed we’ve got some things in common, like some of your friends are my friends and I have taken my time to peruse leisurely some of your works and I have found them extremely useful.

By the way, the points you shared the other day about seven traits of highly successful entrepreneurs are pretty awesome. That was such a resource! You know, I simply wanted to share and like that over and over again. That’s to tell you how much I loved it!

You see, [mention their name again – it makes them feel you really know them and they want to feel at home with you], I’d love to be friends with you and to of course learn from your reservoir of knowledge. Common you are just too loaded!

I hope to connect with you on a much deeper level. If that sounds like fun for you, we could always catch up here sometimes. And hey, should you need help on designing almost perfect graphical representations or websites, I am only a CALL away. 🙂

And here’s where I’d hang my words and anticipate your response.

Cheers!

[Insert your name]

Okay, I really hope that was helpful?

Well, I am sure you noticed the succinctness of the text and its straightforwardness and of course its friendliness. You want to make sure you sound as though you’ve known this person all week or months long.

Also, you want to make sure you make them feel good. You know how people get when they are talked about in some ways that makes them feel important. I know I always have this feel-good-feeling when I get such reactions or compliments from fans of my works.

Really, whatever you do, just make sure you are networking with people as they have the susceptibility to help you grow and accelerate your income in record time.

7: Learn to promote and sell – You are not an entrepreneur if you have not learn and master the art and science of promoting and selling your ideas.

Have you seen the TV show Shark Tank recently?

If you have then you must have heard Mark Cuban insistently telling entrepreneurs on countless times that knowing how to sell is an absolutely essential part of being a successful business owner.

Actually, the man was right on the head without questioning! 🙂

My friend, I will put it to you straight that you are in for a rough ride if you cannot express in simple term what exactly it is that makes your product or service a solution to the problem people are seeking.

So what I am saying in essence is that you need to be able to explain to people what you sell as the one with the grander vision else nobody will do that for you and what that means is that you’d go broke and eventually quit your business.

And that’s not fair on you or is it?

You know, there were times in my life as an entrepreneur when I was all too scared to share about me or my business, that is, what I do to help people.

And then I suddenly begin to see people share so much about themselves and what they do to help people on my Facebook News Feed.

What, are these people crazy?!

I got this way but common these people are liked, trusted and people buy from them almost every time they have a new product to sell out.

Now that’s cool!

So I set out myself to weave and craft out words about myself; I shared everything from how I lost momma to becoming an orphan boy, how I threw myself away in the bid to later in life find myself by leaving home to work different odd jobs, you know I shared pretty much about everything about myself online and sometimes offline via speaking engagements.

Some people feel pity for me.

Some don’t even care.

And some others just contacted me to hire me outright seeing that I was proficient at weaving out words from nowhere.

Plus my skills as a WordPress developer and graphics designer enabled me to get hired, which also affords me the opportunity to pay my bills and send myself through college.

Cool, huh?

You can do this too if you really want to.

It’s simple but it sure takes a lot of guts and ability to stay consistent at sharing your discoveries and current knowledge with people that makes up your online tribe.

That’s it and you’d be on your way, on a roller-coaster for sure, to building a thriving online business and be able to accelerate your income in just 6 weeks.

Wrapping Up

Now, that’s my 7 Essential Traits of Highly Successful Entrepreneurs. They are the exact same thing that has stood me out all these years of running my own successful online business.

How to Make Big Money with Blogging

How to Make Big Money with Blogging

Editor’s Note: Sometimes last week, I began to think of what to share with YOU but to tell you what, I was blank. That was when I saw Ryan’s post where he offered to guest post on weblogs that share stuff on Blogging. We exchange a few texts about that, and this morning, Ryan contacted me with an attachment of this post, he was going to share with us on how to make BIG money with blogging. My heart leaped for joy as I read through the article and I couldn’t hold back on sharing it with you!

I’m sure you will enjoy it as much as i did. Over to you, Ryan. 🙂

How to Make Big Money with Blogging

Man catching falling cash

“The fun is the reward.”

Repeat that phrase to yourself 10 times. Right now.

If you are struggling like a flopping fish out of water to make any money with your blog, repeating that mantra above will help you.

You probably made a god out of money. Or maybe you are just terrified to lose money, or to go broke.

I have been in your shoes. I have lost almost everything years ago. But I also turned my financial life around by living that mantra above.

When you blog mainly to have fun, the blogging/work/fun is the reward. All else feels like extra, or a bonus. Like money.  When money feels like an extra or bonus, or no big deal, more money flows into your life.

This is the perfect attitude to take to earn some sweet coin through blogging.

1: Follow Your Fun

Follow your fun. Primarily. Your finances follow.

Follow your passion. Primarily. The profits follow.

When you follow each step below you will notice something: I mentioned the word “money” only a few times. This is because to make big money you don’t just stare at money all day long, or focus on money. Money is inanimate. It cannot act. *People* do act, though. And money flows through people.

So if you want to make a ton of money, focus on following your passion through blogging, for fun. This detaches you largely from money outcomes which helps you focus on helping people which helps you make more money now, and in the long run.

2: Define What “Big” Money Means to You

Big money is $10,000 a year to some folks.

Big money is $1,000,000 a year to other folks.

A different crowd may define big money as $10,000,000,000 a year.

There is one scary but freeing part of defining your money goals: you are going to BE such a different person while you work toward those goals that it will make you sprint out of your comfort zone into fun and freeing and sometimes terrifying spots.

This is the tuition you need to pay to make big money. Especially if you have little money now. No longer can you cower to your fears or make excuses or blame other people for your failures.

You committed to enter the big boy and big girl club now. These folks laugh at fears as they glide through the fears, like a hot knife through butter. You need to do the same to make that scrilla.

3: Create Helpful Posts

Create helpful blog posts to address the needs of your readers.

Increase your blogging income.

Ask readers questions. What are they struggling with? What obstacles do they face? Ask how you can help them.

Provide answers in the form of your blog posts. Be thorough. Be generous. Tackle their problem/questions with your solutions/answers/blog posts.

If you regularly solve your reader’s problems you lay the foundation for becoming a full time, professional blogger.

4: HOB

Help Other Bloggers.

Promote other bloggers through social media, by interviewing them and by featuring them on your blog.

This is my favorite tip for boosting my blogging profits. I help other bloggers make money and they help me to make money. Simple formula. Not rocket science here.

Helping successful bloggers builds friendships. Those friends expand your reach by promoting you. Some will hire you. Some will buy your product or eBooks.

Help other bloggers freely. Make that sweet chedda.

5: Guest Post

Guest post on top blogs from your niche.

Wow the socks off of successful pro bloggers and impress their audiences too.

Guest posting simply leverages your presence quickly. Being seen by more folks who are interested in your blog, products and services increases your income potential.

Reach out to your blogging buddies. Ask if you can guest post on their blog and share 3 ideas with them.

If you build really strong friendships and practice writing 1,000 words daily (in a Word document) your friends will invite you to guest post before you ask them.

The magic of making online buddies, eh?

6: Blog Comment

Comment on top blogs from your niche.

Increase your exposure. Build brand awareness. Boost your blogging profits.

Write a 5 paragraph – or longer – insightful, personalized, helpful comment on top blogs from your niche. Help people. Make friends. Increase your blog traffic and income.

Commenting on blogs gives you greater online visibility and more friends. That’s a profitable combo.

7: Build an Email List

Build an email list.

The money may not be in the list but when it is easy for folks to read your latest posts and buy your latest products and hire you for your services, you will see it is easier to make money when you’re list building.

List building is convenience on steroids. Folks WILL read your blog when they get your posts through email. Ditto for buying new eBook releases; I spotted an uptick in eBook sales when I got serious about building a list.

Readers may see your post on Twitter. They probably won’t see it on Facebook these days. They will see it and read it and follow your call to action if your post pops up in their email inbox.

Build a list.

8: Create Products and Services

Create products and services to cash in.

Doing so helps diversify your income streams.

I just checked my stats now; I sold one more eBook on Amazon. That is a quick 3 bucks. Which does not seem like much. Until you factor in the other income streams through which I am earning.

It all adds up.

Consider: offering freelance writing services, blog consulting services, writing and self-publishing eBooks on Amazon, self-publishing audio books, affiliate income and creating helpful online courses.

Add an income stream every 3-6 months.

Prosper.

Your Turn

What tips can you add to this list?

How New Writers Can Start To Make Their Entire Living Writing

How New Writers Can Start To Make Their Entire Living Writing

Editor’s Note: Yusuff Busayo is one writer I respect a lot and he has spared no efforts in dishing out his knowledge about how you can as a new writer make your entire living writing for individuals and organizations. Make sure to spend the next 10-minutes in consuming this piece and the next 3-days in applying the lessons taught in Yusuff’s “How New Writers Can Start To Make Their Entire living Writing“. I will see you at the top!

How New Writers Can Start To Make Their Entire Living Writing

ImageSource

Let’s face it: you’re a writer.

But there is a clause.

You are not just a writer who writes when you feel like; when the food tastes nice, or when your sweethearts break your heart.

No.

Instead, you write professionally. You practice your writing deliberately. To make money. To build your blog. To build your business. Or simply spread your message.

You tell people you’re a writer who makes money writing. And you even raise your hands when online entrepreneurs are called.

But the truth is: you don’t make a as a writer.

You struggle all you can, put in all the effort you know to. But somehow, all your efforts seem to be crawling down a bottomless hole.

So these days, you’re quietly telling yourself it’s impossible to really make money writing.

It’s impossible for anyone to make their entire living writing and in this piece I have spared no efforts in sharing with you some of the strategies involved in making that happen.

Of course, you can make money writing books. But besides that, no one makes money any other way, you think.

Is that really true?

The Story That’ll Change Your Life

Mine may not be a revolutionary story, but it is somewhat like yours.

I jumped into the online world in the year 2013; determined to create businesses around writing.

I studied all I could about blogging and making money online. I practised all I could and even wrote tons of blog posts on different topics that never succeeded.

I mastered nearly all the tricks of making money writing, but I was so darn broke my poverty scared the willies out of me.

The table did not turn so quickly, because I fell for the ruse new online entrepreneurs believe: if you can’t beat them, join them.

I gave up trying to make money writing, forgot that dream, and instead began to read blogs for fun. Soon, I took a high school teaching job that was more frustrating than if I had just been without employment.

Long story short, frustration and zeal drove me to find an Email Marketing blog in May, 2016. The author was a no-nonsense email marketing specialist who taught me (and his numerous subscribers) how to set up an email copywriting business.

The result is that, almost 60 days after I launched into the business, I was making the exact income I couldn’t make in the last three years struggling online.

Over the next few months, I made over N500, 000 just writing short, snappy sales emails for mine and clients’ businesses.

And these emails are usually written under 20 minutes per day.

First Things First: How You Can Succeed As A Newbie Web Writer

How did I grow my email writing business to such a fairly massive success?

I could tell you I was lucky. And that would be true.

I could tell you I worked hard to get there. And that would also be true

But instead, I will hand you the most important lesson I learned, that saved me from toiling ever again to make money as a writer. This lesson was staring me in the face all along (as it is with you, now) but I never saw it.

What’s the lesson?

I chose a single writing niche and specialised in it.

Listen, that means instead of trying to be a freelance writer, a copywriter, a social media expert, a direct response copywriter, etc…all of those at the same time (like most new writers always want to do)…

I chose only Email Copywriting and stuck with it.

I studied all I could, practiced as many times as I could (daily), and the results started to come in less than 60 days.

I’ll confess that I practised the advice of popular Freelance Copywriter and author of over 70 books, Bob Bly, “New freelance writers should specialise; not generalise.”

In other words, in lieu of trying to be everything to everyone, be one thing to a specific crowd.

Write for people who need you. Not people who don’t.

More elaborately: choose a specific writing niche you’ll write for. Ignore all other niches. Then develop your chosen niche until you’re so good you’re the go-to person.

But how you do make money specialising your writing?

How Do You Make Money Writing In Your Specific Niche

Seriously, I cannot decide this for you. Each niche comes with their capabilities; which all can be harnessed if you’ve studied your market well.

When you stop trying to do everything and start to put all your proverbial eggs in one basket, you will realise what financial opportunities there are in your niche.

For example, I did not know I could set up other associated businesses with my email copywriting skill.

Studying that niche showed me the needs I could meet with only that writing skill.

I realised I could write for clients.

I could create reports on Email Copywriting.

I could start an Email Copywriting newsletter.

I could launch video and audio trainings on Email Copywriting.

98% of which I have started to do, and earn from.

If you choose to become a social media expert, there is much money to be had there also. Companies are constantly requiring the help of social media experts to manage their accounts. And most companies do pay well.

Delving into the social media is even more tasking; requiring a skillset that demands extreme focus. The social media world is a constantly evolving medium that demands you to keep abreast of it changes.

So the lesson still stands true that: you should become the Jill of one trade instead of being Jack of all trades and master of none.

The better you are at one thing, the more effective you become…and the more money you make.

Closing: Change Your Finances By Becoming A Go-To Writer

Look, will you pay for a doctor who specialises in treating a particular disease or one who treats all kinds of diseases?

The story is told of Michael Dell, founder of Dell Computers. To increase his business advantage, he searches for a person who was the best in his field and hire him; no matter the price.

Legendary Copywriter and Direct Response Marketer, late Gary Halbert charged his clients as much $15,000 for his service, plus 5% on each product sale…because he was a legend at writing highly-converting copies.

Maya Angelou made a great deal of her income just writing poems and short stories.

This is a contrarian attitude. The world (and its pressures) wants you to do more. But successful people do less to achieve more.

The more you do more of one thing every day, the more you grow your skill in that area, and the more you increase your chances to earn more money.

As Brent Jones of BrentJonesonline.com once told me, “You’ll be paid what you’re worth.” And what you’re worth is determined by what you can do.

If you can do a bit of everything, you’ll only earn a bit from everything. But if you can do much of one thing – and you can do it well – you up your chances to create a greatly successful life.

How to Start a Blog in 6 Easy Ways – My Best Tips!

How to Start a Blog in 6 Easy Ways – My Best Tips!

Editor’s Note: Sam Adeyinka is a Digital Marketing Strategist, Public Speaker, Freelance Writer and Podcaster!  He first published this post on Huffington Post as a contributor.

Have you ever wonder and ask the one million dollar question of how to start a blog?

Well, you’re in luck because I will in this post share with you six easy ways to get your blog up and running.

Now, I understand the craving of wanting to start your own blog, part of which might stem from the desire of espousing your knowledge to the world around you.

To tell you what, you can start and get a blog running in less than 20 minutes.

Really?

Yes, I mean it – 20 minutes!

And did I tell you that you don’t need any knowledge of html, coding or at the most, web design.

Albeit, I will share with you a little story about how I got started and I’m sure it will get you fired up. Read on…

Okay, a little over 5 years ago, I started my first blog on the wordpress.com and it was called SamuelKermis.wordpress.com.

Before I start that blog though, I changed from platform to platforms. That said. I started with blogspot.com and then I moved to tumblr.com and then to wix.com and on and on until I found wordpress.com, which I thought was fairly easy to manoeuvre.

But the truth was, I knew next to nothing about writing or running a blog letting alone making it successful. So I got frustrated and quit working on the blog.

Then after 2 years, I came back to it, having downloaded and studied several books on “How to Start a Blog”.

So I went on and bought a domain (Pro Motivator), registered it with a web host (Arvixe), and then installed WordPress on it with Softaculous and that took about 10 minutes.

That’s it – that’s how I started, launched and became successful at growing successful blogs.

It’s the same thing I hope to do with this post and if you will take the next 7 minutes or so to read this post and of course apply the shared lessons, you will have been able to start and grow a successful blog of your own.

How to Start a Blog in 6 Easy Steps
  1. Know exactly WHY you want to start a blog
  2. Decide WHAT your blog will be about
  3. Choose a platform to blog on
  4. Choose a web host
  5. Install WordPress using Arvixe or Godaddy or any other web hosting companies.
  6. Login to your new blog and start blogging, sharing your awesomeness with your readers.

#1. Know exactly WHY you want to start a blog

A wise man once said, “When you know your destination, getting your direction becomes easier.” Isn’t that right?

Now, people start blogs for different reasons. And it’s been discovered that blogging can help you become a better person, help you think clearer, communicate with intentionality and build your creative flair. Improve your writing style is one of the things blogging can help you with.

It’s what I have experienced. 🙂

So why do you want to blog becomes the question that begs an answer.

I can’t answer that for you as only you are in the best position to answer the question.

However, I have shared some of the few reasons why you might want to start a blog.

For me though, I launched into the world of blogging also known as the blogosphere because I wanted to be able to communicate my thoughts and ideas to a larger audience and really help them live fully and sensually.

So I ask you; why do you want to start a blog?

#2. Decide WHAT your blog will be about

Entertainment?

Education?

Politics?

Fashion?

Travel?

You can name it. Exactly what do you want your blog to be about?

For the few who are familiar with Linda Ikeji, you will know that she run the most popular and controversial entertainment blog in Nigeria. I can already see some folks nodding a BIG yes to my claim. 🙂

I am sure the name Brian Clark is not strange to you. And if it is, I am not sure Copyblogger is strange to you as you will rarely make a search query on terms like, “How to start a successful blog” or say “How to be a better writer and not be redirected to his powerful blog.

Where do you go to when you are looking for news about politics? CNN of course! For Nigerian’s suffers, you know its naij.com, right?

I can continue listing blogs and what they focus their strength and energy upon. Tells why some blogs are greater than the others.

The simple truth is that bloggers who knows exactly what they should blog about are not always short on words or better put, they don’t experience what you call writer’s block.

I mean if you don’t have talker’s block, why then should you have writer’s block. Just saying.

I highlighted in this post exactly what you should do to know what you should blog about. And Jeff Boss shared four powerful points in his “find your niche in 60 minutes... post he made on Entrepreneur.com. You should check out those two links if you are really serious about knowing what to blog about.

Let me also share some really pretty easy steps to knowing what you should focus on as you start your own blog.

Write down and sincerely answer the following questions in a sheet of paper…

What are your hobbies? What do you feel happy doing? What are you always excited to talk about to your friends? Is it fashion, technology, entrepreneurship, leadership, food, traveling, relationship, movies or fiction?

Answering the above questions will sure help you to make the decision of blogging about what it is you should be blogging about.

And trust me, passion is one of the few things that will stand you out, that will determine if or not you are going to quit anytime soon, or that you are going to always put your head in the game as to brewing new contents week-in-week-out.

In the light of this, I ask you to go on to create a blog, talk about what you know, love and are willing to learn and the sky will only be your starting point.

#3. Choose a platform to blog on

There are several blogging platforms out there and you just have to choose one to install your blog on.

Would you like to know the ones that exist?

WordPress – WordPress is the most popular free blogging platform. I use this one and you can go here to learn about the 7 Major Reasons Why I Love And Use WordPress.

Tumblr – Tumblr is one of the easiest free blogging platforms to use.

Blogger – Blogger is one of the longest running free blogging platforms on the web.

Medium

Svbtle

LiveJournal

Weebly

Postach.io

Typepad

Joomla

Weebly

Pen.io

Ghost

I should tell you however that these free blogging platforms aren’t really free. Remember that even in Freetown there’s actually nothing free.

Now, these blogging platforms all come with TONS of annoying limitations that seek nothing else but to enslave you. I share 5 of them below:

Limitation #1: They use your blog as a hub for sharing their annoying adverts which proceeds they will not share with you.

Limitation #2: You can’t promote affiliate products and the most annoying one is that you are not allowed to install Adsense codes on your blog. Now tell me, how do they intend for you to make money online?

Limitation #3: You can’t use many of the thousands of the must have wordpress plugins out there, let alone be able to install out-of-the-box wordpress themes. Now, that’s a BIG put off, right? I thought so too.

Limitation #4: you can’t use a custom email ID like [email protected] That’s not cool. You deserve something better.

Limitation #5: On free blogging platforms, your blog can be deleted at any time if the company’s server mistakes your blog for a spam, or if you accidentally violate their rules.

And guess what – you have no remedy if that happens. So the smart choice is to go with a selfhosted blog.

Convinced now about why you shouldn’t even think of starting your blog with a free blogging platform? Read on…

So how much does a self-hosted blog cost?

Turns out, not much of a hassle anyways.

What you’ll pay to set up your blog is less than a movie ticket…

First, you’ll need a domain name – usually sold for $15 but I’ll tell you how to grab it for almost FREE.

Second, you’ll need a hosting account which costs less than $68 and $95 for the first year.

You can go here to get coupon codes to get cheap domain names and web host services with Godaddy.

#4. Choose a web host

There are actually several web hosting companies out there but I have been using Arixe since 2013, though I left them sometimes because of the few glitches they had and that affected my blog at the time. But as soon as it was fixed, I came back.

There is however some really important things to take note of when choosing a web host. They are:

Reliability Speed 99% Server Uptime Ease of use Unlimited disk space, unlimited bandwidth, and unlimited email accounts. Inexpensive. “one-click WordPress blog” installation, so you can install WordPress with few clicks. 90-day money- back guarantee. So if you open a blog today and decide later that blogging is not something you want to do again, you can cancel your account and get a refund.

Should in case you scared out of your wit about this whole new technology, feel free to tap from Najeem Akinwande‘s great post on How To Win Over Your Fear of Technology and Run Your Business Like a Pro. It will sure help you tackle this whole thing head on.

#5. Install WordPress using Arvixe or Godaddy or any other web hosting companies.

Now, you need to install wordpress using arvixe or Godaddy cPanel. Let the images guide you!

How to Make Money Online Fast and Free

How to Make Money Online Fast and Free

One of the most discussed topics on the internet today is the subject of “How to make money online fast and free”, and to be sincere many digital marketers has done great justice to it by putting out many helpful contents on the subject.

And I will herein admit that those were in fact, the bedrock for the knowledge I have over the years amassed about this topic of legitimately making money online .

However, I figured it did make sense to further reinstate the fact that it is possible to make money online through the internet with the aid of online systems such as, blogging, advertising programs, affiliate marketing, information marketing and the list is actually endless.

5 Cool Ways to Make Money Online Fast and Free…

How to make money online fast and free

This is How to Make Money Online Fast and Free!

#1. Blogging – This has to be the first on my list of online making money strategies. Why is that so? That’s because it is the foremost and the most reliable way to make money online free and fast.

How about take a cursory gaze into the world around you and you’d find out that there are in fact, 1, 2 or more bloggers in one or two families around you.

I know this because in my own family, we’ve got two bloggers; my little brother and yours faithfully. 🙂 Though blogging to the former is rather a fun thing to do than it is a business system and money making machine.

Sincerely, blogging is one proven method of making money online. I have seen folks who have through blogging increased their monthly earnings to some staggering 5, 6, even 7-figures. That’s pretty huge, right?

In true sense, every other methods of making money online I will here mention or that you find from your surfing online from one weblog to the other will only tie with this method of making money online – blogging.

Now you might ask, “Sam, what does it take to be a blogger? How do you even start a blog?”

Well, I will help you by answering the two questions to the best of my knowledge. 🙂

What it takes to be a blogger…

  • To be a blogger, you will need your mind and your resolution to want to actually take on the career head on.
  • To be a blogger, you will need to make sure to load your blog with valuable contents week-in-week-out.
  • To be a blogger, even one that is successful, you will need to get clarity on what it is exactly you want to blog about. I mean you can’t just go blogging about everything from entertainment to how to blog or make money online.

How to start a blog of means…

In this article I published on Huffington Post, I did an extensive write-up on how to start a blog in 6 ways and those were my best tips on the subject. You can trust me on this one!

However, I will quickly give you a bulleted list of how to start a blog in the event that you don’t want to leave this blog until you get to the last line of this post.

  • Decide on what to blog about – If your passions are to motivate others to take action, then it just makes sense to let your blog and content be geared towards motivating people. Hence, I created a blog centered on motivation back in 2013 until my focus changes from that to helping people start, launch, and grow a successful online business.
  • Choose a platform – Now, there are several options to choose from when it comes to choosing platforms. There are platforms like Blogger, Typepad, mention, Wix, and a more subtle one I love and always recommend to people, WordPress. You should check with wordpress to see if like me, it’s what you want to build your business on.
  • Get a domain name – It’s important to get a domain name as it is the first step towards getting your business online. However, there are some things you’ve got to take note of and my friend Oleg did justice to that in his post, 12 tips for choosing the right domain. And you can get your domain via Godaddy, Namecheap and any other domain platforms out there.
  • Get a web host – After getting a domain name, the next best thing to do is to get a good, reliable web host. There are a lot of them but then I use Arvixe and Godaddy respectively. You can carry out your research on this one.
  • Install your site – This will usually take less than 15minutes to setup, maybe 10.

I believe you are still with me. Are you?

So when you have successfully put to use my thoughts up there, then you are sure to become a successful blogger – and becoming a successful blogger means making huge money online.

Let’s jump on the next page…

#2. Google Adsense Program – Now this is one of the foremost things to integrate your blog with if you were to start making money online from the first day/week of your blogging career.

For me, it took several months, 3yrs to be precise to cash out my first dollars online.

It was no jokes having to wait that long before I made that meager of $80 but my tenacious attitude and love for what I do kept me ticking.

Now, this is why I always advocate for people to first find out what their purpose is, that is the direction they want to go with their blogs before going all out to launch their sites or even buy a domain name.

I’d say though that it took me those long year to make my first dollars online simply because I didn’t know how to integrate money making strategies into my blogging system.

A blog is actually a system or a channel and you are not going to make a dime with your blog until you find the plugs that you can connect into a socket, which is otherwise known as a blog.

Does this make sense to you?

I am hopeful. 🙂

So, in the summer of 2014 I applied to work with Google Adsense Team to show their advertising images on my blogging platforms via some lines of codes that provided me with and that was it – that was how I started making money online via my blog by integrating Google Adense with my blog.

You see the connection?

#3. Affiliate Marketing – Affiliate marketing is one of the top effective ways to make money online. In fact, top internet marketers recommend it to their subjects, that is audience as it is what they themselves is deploying to stay on top of the blogging industry.

How it works…

Research and find a product, test it, write your views about the product and actively promote the content with your audience, then cross your legs to wait for your commissions to start rolling in.

That’s much it.

However, you will need to work your ass out in finding a good, thriving, and a product that doesn’t just have the likelihood of going viral but that has the effect to add value to people’s lives. People buy value not just the product.

“If your product is not valuable, you can be sure that people will look elsewhere”. Click To Tweet

Karan did a good job with his post on how to monetize your blog traffic with amazon affiliate program. You should totally check that out.

By the way, I found a good resource written by Alvin Chadwick on the 5 crucial tactics for affiliate marketing success and I believe it will worth your while, especially if you want to go route of making money online via affiliate marketing.

You can always start your journey with affiliate marketing by visiting Commission Junction or check with your domain and hosting companies to see if they have the option of affiliate marketing. They almost always have.

If you use premium plugins, that is paid plugins or templates, you can also work with them as an affiliate marketer by applying to talk about them with your network of friends.

Do you get my drifts?

#4. Podcasting – I know some of you might be wondering and might even ask to know why podcasting is a means of making money online.

Well, I will tell you. 🙂

Podcasting is another form of radio broadcasting and if done well by the podcaster can become a very powerful of increasing sales.

How do I mean?

You can record 50 podcasts and put stack them up into a DVD to sell to your fans later on, or you can ultimately turn these podcast episodes into an online course that people can join with a fee.

I mean you just have to be creative and after all said and done, making money online involves creativity. Plenty of it!

More so, if you are a very articulate person who knows how to choose their words and use them to paint vivid pictures in the minds of the readers, you can be sure that companies will locate you to want to work with you just so that can promote their product on your shows.

Now, that sounds like fun, isn’t it?

Definitely! 🙂

#5. Write Books – The best way out of all the mentioned ways above is definitely writing books. Some internet marketers call this strategy of making money online, ‘information marketing’.

How many books have you seen from your hops on several weblogs?

I bet you can’t count. Can you?

Personally, I can’t recount how many books I’ve seen, downloaded and read from the blogs I read daily.

What those digital marketers do is that they give you those free books because they want you to know, like, and trust them.

And until I trust you enough to read your blog daily by the values in which you induce in me every day, I can’t trust you with my money.

So people are writing books these days and are actively selling on online markets such as, Amazon, eBay, and the likes of them.

I won’t talk too much on this because this on its own can fill the pages of a book, if you know what I am saying.

By the way, I just published my first ever Kindle Book (101 Common Blogging Mistakes: And Smart Fixes) and it’s sold for as low as 0.99cents – you can get it here on Amazon.

Wrapping Up

These are the five steps in which I believe you can start making money online the little time 2016 vanishes into oblivion.

Right now though, I can categorically tell you that I make money via writing books and writing for people, which is otherwise known as Freelance Writing.

I am sure that if you will but take your time to read, digest, and religiously take action on the five steps to make money online that I share with you, you will definitely hit me up someday to thank me for taking the time and initiative to churn out this content.

Legitimate Online Business Model for Startups – Top 10

Legitimate Online Business Model for Startups – Top 10

Would you love to learn legitimate online business model?

When you hear “Business Model”, what does it mean to you?

Not to worry, I will share everything you need to know about that here…

A business model is a plan for the successful operation of a business, identifying sources of revenue, the intended customer base, products, and details of financing.

That said. The online business models I have enlisted below will help you in determining what you should venture into as your niche is concerned.

So in a recent data published by Internet Retailer reveals that online sales totaled $304.91 billion in 2014, a 15.4% increase from 2013, and that an estimated $350 billion will be spent online at the end of this year (2015). This is in the US alone.

While we’re all obsessed with the Mark Zuckerbergs, Steph Obis, Jeff Bullas, Victor Basseys, Neil Patels, Larry Pages and Sergey Brins of this world, the fact remains that there are a lot of average people making a difference, and ensuring a comfortable living for themselves without necessarily having to create the next big thing.

If you are yet to start an online business, all data and indications show that now is the right time to start. If you’re confused about what to start, don’t worry, I’ll show you ten practical and proven business models, with relevant examples that you can implement immediately.

Top 10 Legitimate Online Business Model for Startups

Legitimate online Business model

Legitimate Online Business Model #1 – Creating a Weblog Business Model

One of the foremost ways of making money online is to actually start a business online by creating your own weblog and that’s why I have decided to make it the first on this list.

Trust me it is a very powerful and profitable online business model you will want to turn to if you want to become a thought leader in your field.

That said. You can create a business website, an entertainment website, or perhaps an education website. The list is actually endless.

So for instance, Deji Sobanjo blogs about developing your innate ability to teach others how to get from where they are to where they ought to be while John Obidi share about Social Media and how to leverage it to build a formidable business.

Now, that’s two different niches right there, and these two juggernauts have taken that niche and made it their own, hence the reason for the rise and success of their respective websites.

Internet Marketing Experts often advice, be it on their blogs or at conferences to ‘start your own blog’ if you dream of making huge money online.

They are very right and the good thing about creating a blog is that there’s the free option and there’s of course the paid option, which is the coolest.

You just have to choose from one, depending on your needs and what you’re trying to achieve with that blog.

Linda Ikeji is a brand that has become a household name in the African Diaspora as far as blogging is concerned.

Linda’s success online is evident that you can in fact make money online in Nigeria. That I believe tells why every young Nigerians today wants to start a blog of their own.

The iron lady blogs on a .blogspot.com extension, which is not so professional, yet has achieved remarkable success plying her trade in the entertainment blog industry.

It is believed that the Queen of Blogging in Africa makes a staggering #20m+ every month. Do I hear you ask how she’s able to pull that off?

N.B: And for the record, Linda now blogs on her own self-hosted domain here.

However, the side effect of a .blogspot extension is that you will not be taking serious by serious minded bloggers with a .com extension.

More so, you are limited in your money making strategies as potential clients will find it difficult to trust you, because they feel your outfit is not professional enough.

“But Linda is making huge money despite being on a .blogspot.com extension. So what is the hassle for?” You quizzed.

Good question.

That’s Linda and you should remember that Linda was already a brand in the modelling outfit before she dabbles into blogging having discovered about the phenomenon from BellaNaija.

So you know it’s easy for her to pull traffic (paid traffic of course) to her blog and of course get direct advertisement for her blog from top juggernauts in different work industries.

That said. Creating a website or say a blog of means and quality is a sure-fire way of making money online.

Convinced?

Okay fine.

You can start a self-hosted website doing anything (tech, fashion, motivation) for less than $4/month on any of the Web Hosting below;

Hostgator

BlueHost

Arvixe

Ipage

TigerTech

Let me quickly share my success story with you being one who ported from a wordpress.com blog to my own self-hosted site, known then as Promotivator (dot) info

I blogged for three (3) solid years on Samuelkermis (dot) wordpress (dot) com and during those times, I never made a dime despite the huge number of traffics to my blog.

You might ask “why didn’t you make money despite the huge traffic your blog gets?”

Truth is my not making money with that blog is not because of the extension but because I didn’t think outside the box or maybe because I didn’t understand too well the technicalities of blog monetization.

I know now though that had my blog been on a .com extension, it would have attracted potential customers mailing me to do business with my blog, which might come as reviews or sponsored post or anything else.

However, the moment I made that port to a self-hosted wordpress site, things took a different turn and I made my first $100 in just 5months and then got my first sponsored post and later sold that blog to start other blogs. The experience has been pretty wonderful since then. 🙂

So you see how creating a self-hosted blog makes the difference in the quest of making money online with your online business?

Key lessons:

Think, plan, buy the domain and create a website in the area of your passion.
Design the website
Pull quality/targeted traffic to it
Monetize it with Google Adsense, Affiliate Marketing, blog setup and the likes.
Getting started shouldn’t cost you more than a few $100 or so.

Legitimate Online Business Model #2 – The Freelancing Business Model

I’ve been online for over 5 years now, and one thing I’ve noticed among people who want to start online businesses is the desire for quick income.

I won’t necessarily sell you a “quick cash” dream, because most people who start with such mindset don’t last, but I can tell you that the fastest route to income online is to be a freelancer.

By becoming a freelancer, you can very well be making an income within a few days of starting your business. For instance, I made $36 in just 48hours. That’s a meager amount of money, yes I know but some people can’t even boast of making that in a month.

You need to first have a viable skill you can use to serve potential clients; perhaps you’re good at using Photoshop, drawing illustrations or cartoons, designing plugins and themes, or in my case writing and customizing websites, etc.

Then you could have a successful freelance business in no time.

I’m an example of someone who built a successful online business through freelance writing, and Daniel and Ali’s Freelance Writing Course is one of the best resources if you decide to go this route.

Key Lessons:

Have something to offer: The fact that quick income is possible by freelancing doesn’t mean it is effortless; you have to offer real value to clients, and you should forget about some “passive income” dream.

“Freelance writing is not easy and hence earning from freelancing requires real effort.” – Sam Adeyinka

Learn from the best: If you’re a freelance writer, Daniel and Ali’s course for freelance writers is a good place to start, and it’s extraordinarily affordable as a career investment. If you want to do other forms of freelancing, seek the best people doing the freelancing of your choice and learn from them (Feel free to ask me questions on this).

Legitimate Online Business Model #3 – The Consultant Business Model

The consultant business model is very similar to the freelancing business model, but it’s different in that your role is to provide guidance to your clients instead of to execute their projects.

Perhaps you have some specialized knowledge you can use to help other organizations grow or achieve certain results that would have been impossible otherwise? Then you might want to start consulting.

Ross Simmonds was able to generate $160k in revenue, and $120k in profit, for his consulting business within a year of starting. He did $250k in revenue his second year, and that’s without him having to employ anyone.

Legitimate Online Business Model #4 – The Digital Products Business Model

Selling your own products can be a profitable source of income, and this can eventually lead to a source of semi-passive income.

There are lots of success stories online that prove the efficacy of selling digital products, and a renowned example is Yaro Starav who rose to fame and built a 7 figure business within 5 years of starting online.

The key to creating successful information products lies in knowing what people want, and then giving it to them; if you can master this, and learn some basic marketing, then you’ll experience above average success.

Legitimate Online Business Model #5 – The Affiliate Marketing Business Model

A lot of people doesn’t want to be a “slave to their time” so to speak, and they detest having their income rely on them working all day non-stop.

For these people, freelancing or consulting won’t work, and they might also not want to invest the upfront time required in creating an information product.

If you’re in this camp, then affiliate marketing could be your business model of choice.

With affiliate marketing, you can promote a product created by someone else and get paid a percentage of the income generated from the sale you make.

A notable example of a successful affiliate marketer is Pat Flynn, who has made millions from affiliate marketing since he started around 9 years ago.

According to Pat, the key to affiliate marketing success lies in finding products that convert best for your audience and traffic source and focusing on them.

Legitimate Online Business Model #6 – The Subscription Business Model

Now, this is the dream business model for most people; you put in the initial upfront effort and, with some maintenance effort, you can guarantee a consistent, or increasing, income every month.

The benefit of a subscription business model lies in the fact that people only need to register once, and they will be billed month after month; depending on how well you’re able to maintain your subscription site and how well you can attract new users, this can be a massive source of income.

Carol Tice is one person that uses this technique well. She started the Freelance Writers Den, her community for freelance writers in 2011, and it’s since grown to thousands of users that pay $25 monthly to be a part of the community.

Legitimate Online Business Model #7 – The Paywall Business Model

The Paywall business model is quickly becoming a choice among publications and media sites as a way to increase revenue without relying on ads.

The paywall business model involves you giving people access to a certain number of content on your site, or restricting access to a certain percentage of your content, so that people can pay to access the remaining content.

Several reputable news sites like The New York Times and Boston Globe rely on this as their main source of online revenue.

Legitimate Online Business Model #8 – The E-Commerce Website Business Model

E-commerce sites focus on buying and selling products through an electronic medium.

Some good examples of e-commerce sites are Ebay, Amazon, Alibaba, and Macy’s.

These type of sites can produce large amounts of income, but tend to require the most work to build and maintain.

Storage (fulfilment services), shipping and delivering, product refunds and a whole list of other responsibilities fall under running an e-commerce site.

Communication with buyers and sellers is vital and gaining traffic and converting prospects into buyers also plays a primary role in e-commerce.

Unless you have a dedicated staff you may find yourself spending a lot of your time running and maintaining this type of online business model.

E-commerce can be a great business model if you understand how e-commerce works and are able to shift responsibilities to other staff members to alleviate your time consumption, but if you aren’t familiar with e-commerce you can always get your feet wet by practicing and getting familiar with websites such as Ebay, and Amazon.

Legitimate Online Business Model #10 – The Membership Site Business Model

Membership sites can be a great way to build an income because monthly and/or annual payments can be made to generate an income on a continuous basis.

This can be very appealing as a business model because you aren’t selling a one-time product but creating a continuous revenue stream which requires far fewer people to maintain a good source of income.

Membership sites are usually paid monthly subscriptions that allow the person purchasing the membership to become part of a community, gain valuable information on a topic that they consider important, learn valuable skills through multimedia such as video, text, and images, and gain exclusive offers and promotions.

Ravi Kumar and Sefa Tsegha are two people doing well in this area. Matter of fact, I am planning on taking lessons from Sefa from next month.

By the way, he did shared some great tips with Vicky Law, in this post. You should totally check with it.
