port fom blogger to WordPress

Introduction:

In this past three weeks, I have literally lost count of people who have been asking me on how they could move from blogspot to WordPress. Here you have it guys!

So if like me you seek a better platform than Blogspot then WordPress would be your best bet. Let me guess, you are probably thinking blogspot is the best because everyone uses it. Yeah we all do, even Harleena Singh does, and at some point we realized for us to be more productive we will need a platform such as WordPress, which is more versatile.

I tell you with every sense of sincerity that WordPress is absolutely the best platform for every bloggers, especially newbie bloggers aspiring to succeed in the Blogosphere.

However, the question every bloggers trying to migrate from one platform to the other ask is:

  • Am I going to lose all my posts?

  • Will the comments and likes on my old blog still reflect on this new blog?

  • Is it even possible to migrate?

This last question is most often asked by newbie bloggers. I think two weeks ago, a blogger friend of mine contacted me wanting to know the possibilities of porting from her blogspot blog to a WordPress blog and whether there are any dangers, like losing her comments and stuffs like that. Well, I told her that it’s of course possible. And after some significant amount of research, I have come to realize that the process of moving all your contents after all is even easier that I thought it would be.

And speaking about losing your files, NO WAY! But the issue will be on making sure blogspot redirects all your traffic to your new WordPress site so that anyone visiting your old weblog address is sent to your new site. Most often, redirection is always advisable in order that you wouldn’t lose your SEO juices.

Mistakes Bloggers Make While Moving to WordPress

A lot of bloggers who previously uses blogspot or perhaps other platforms generally make the mistake of moving to WordPress without going through the full process of importation.

Okay, let’s take a look at it from a rather technical point of view. You can be sure of moving all your data to WordPress but what about the juices you’ve been getting from your previous platforms – the page ranks, and if peradventure you’ve been making money via Google’s Adsense Program, Buysellads.com, Adblade, Gorilla Nation, Green Maven, and host of others. You can bet you will lose a lot of traffic and losing traffic will mean you will have to deal with the loss of revenue generation. I bet you wouldn’t want that to happen! Am I right or am I right?

Now let me ask you, is WordPress for Everyone?

Obviously not, why? Well, from the little knowledge I’ve garnered about blogging over the last few months, I have come to a realization that switching to WordPress isn’t for everyone because if your plan is to run a personal blog, that is a blog that is focus on you, and you are not planning on making money from it then blogspot might just be for you.

Warning: Before you start moving your files, be sure you backup your weblog and everything attached to it. And note, some of your posts might not pop up the exact way it use to, so you might want to go through your old posts and do some editing.

So what’s the solution? How do you go about porting without losing all your previous SEO, traffic and revenue?

Here’s how:

Step 1 :

Install WordPress and when you are done registering your new WordPress blog; be sure to register a new self-hosted domain. They are lot and lot of hosting sites but I’d like to recommend Bluehost, Hostgator, Arvixe, Smartweb, Web4africa, and Nairakobohost. Pro Motivator currently is hosted by Arvixe.

Step 2 :

Go to your WordPress Admin Panel which are usually logged into by e.g (www.yourdomainname.com/wp-amin); drag your mouse to the left hand side bar on your Dashboard.

Step 3 :

Click “Blogger” and once it pops-up click “install now”.

Step 4 :

Then click “Authorize” to tell Blogger to let WordPress access your account.

Step 5 :

This will transfer you to a Google Account Page. Once you’re on the page. Click on “Grant access”.

That’s it, How to Port from Blogger to WordPress. Awwh…less I forget, you can also use this same step in porting from Tumblr.

If you follow through the process highlighted above, you would realize that just as I said earlier it pretty is simple.

All your data are now live on your new weblog site powered by WordPress. Friends, welcome to the community of WordPress users. Happy Blogging!
